The Screen Savers: Chicken Soup for the Geek Soul
NOTE: I've reviewed TSS already, but who cares?
Since I've been a bit under the weather this week, I have been at home digging through the net a bit. (How this is different from any other day, I don't know). I stumbled back upon the old "The Screen Savers"episodes on YouTube again. I think I spent the bulk of yesterday watching them.
That show is like Chicken Soup for my Geek Soul. I have to credit TSS for getting me interested in tech. I didn't know a mac from a PC back then. I think that all of the people that populated the world of the Screen Savers were the impetus for my various ventures on the web. I miss the old days. I could actually shoot Kevin Rose an email and he would answer back. It's that personal interactivity that I miss. I know that it's impossible now, but a man can live in the past for a few minutes right?
The Screen Savers lives on in spirit as part of the podcast universe, but just once, I would love to see them all together again. The closest we have gotten to that was an episode of "In Digital" (I'm too sick/lazy to look it up) where the old Tech TV crowd gave their pics for best gadgets that they love.
Hopefully, Leo Laporte's "Undo TV" has a few tricks up it's sleeve to make us all feel at home again with our old Tech TV idols.
Until then, I'll raise a glass (of orange juice) to TSS. You are still fun to watch.
